Symposium "Improving Yield Prediction"

Improving yield prediction by combining statistics, genetics, physiology and phenotyping: the EU SPICY project in pepper”

This symposium presented an overview of the results of SPICY, a four year EU-funded project, aimed at the development of a suite of tools for molecular breeding. The symposium showed how recent developments in genomics, phenotyping, physiological modelling, statistical genetics, and bio-informatics can be combined in an integrated approach of molecular breeding.

Presentations:

Prediction of complex traits , an integrated approach (Introduction to aims and activities of EU-SPICY) – Fred van Eeuwijk (WUR)

Phenotyping in SPICY : definition and description of plant characteristics - Anja Dieleman (WUR)

Phenotyping by net or wireless enabled fluorosensor system - Attila Barocsi (Univ. Budapest)

Image analysis for automatic phenotyping - Chris Glasbey (BIOSS)

QTL mapping methods and strategies for the simultaneous analysis of yield and component  traits across multiple environments - Marco Bink (WUR)

Process-based simulation models : linking genotype to phenotype for complex traits - Maaike Wubs (WUR)

Closing remarks – Fred van Eeuwijk (WUR)
